Bishop England drops Battery Creek, 17-0, during homecoming football game

The Bishop England football team won its fourth consecutive game this past Friday night against Battery Creek, 17-0, behind a strong defensive effort.

The Battling Bishops held their region foe to 133 yards of offense, while putting up 349 of their own. Younger brother Lawton Fosberry caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from older brother Reed Fosberry in the first quarter to break the draw.

Bishop England (4-2 overall, 3-0 region) maintained that 7-0 advantage through halftime. Senior running back Nick Shiver scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter to make the lead more comfortable. Kicker Matthew Mellin booted a 37-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for insurance.

Shiver finished with 96 rushing yards on 12 carries. Reed Fosberry threw for 113 yards and added 69 on the ground. Lawton Fosberry was the main beneficiary of the passing game, hauling in three of Reed’s five completed passes for 95 yards.

Defensively, linemen Chandler Sambets and Hudson Little combined for 15 tackles, including three for losses. Four other players – Nick Vecchiolla, Chris Kraft, Richard Mahon and Jack Wilson – had at least five tackles.

Battery Creek dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in region play. The Dolphins return to Beaufort for a home game against Woodland (6-0, 3-0) on Friday. Bishop England travels to Burke (0-6, 0-3) on Friday.
