America’s seniors and senior service providers throughout the country will join to celebrate the Annual National Aging in Place Week, Oct. 15-21. National Aging in Place Week is an effort to promote awareness of the Aging in Place movement and the availability of the means for seniors to remain in their homes for as long as possible. Two major events have been planned as part of the South Carolina Aging in Place Coalition’s recognition of National Aging in Place Week.

The first is a Celebration of Aging in Place, Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Founder’s Hall, Charlestowne Landing that features the Honorable Lt. Governor, Glenn McConnell as guest speaker. There will also be community recognition awards, live musical entertainment, with hors d’oeuvres and wine to compliment the evening. Doors open at 5 p.m. This is a free event open to the public but you must make a reservation to attend. For reservations, call 843-402-2273.

The second event in support of Aging in Place Week will be an oyster roast to benefit ITN (Independent Transportation Network) Charleston Trident, presented in partnership with the S.C. Aging in Place Coalition. It will take place Oct. 27 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Bowens Island Restaurant. Tickets purchased in advance are $25 (kids 12 and under are free) by visiting www.ShuckingforSeniors.com and at the door $30.
