Hudson Little won the sixth installment of this year’s Player of the Week contest sponsored by Tony Pope State Farm Insurance of Mount Pleasant between Bishop England, Wando and Palmetto Christian football players.

Little, a junior lineman for Bishop England, was coach John Cantey’s pick after he had seven solo tackles during the Battling Bishops’ 17-0 victory over Battery Creek, Oct. 4.

Little, at 6-feet-4-inches tall and 275 pounds, is a major Division I prospect and has received serious interest from schools like South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, NC State and Georgia Tech. He figures to play on the offensive line in college, but he’s performed well on the defensive side this year. Little has 14 solo tackles, three assists, two sacks, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt.

With the win, Bishop England got on the scoreboard for the first time this season. Palmetto Christian has three wins and Wando has two in this friendly contest rivalry. Bishop England teammate Chandler Sambets narrowly came in second with Palmetto Christian senior Will Tuchfarber grabbing third in the past week’s voting totals.

This week’s contest does not include Palmetto Christian players, because the Eagles had a bye week, thanks to a Week 0 game against Porter-Gaud.

Every week during the high school football season, you vote among six players – two from each of the three East Cooper programs – for who you think is most deserving of the title of Player of the Week. This week, though, you’ll choose from two Bishop England players and two Wando players.

The voting process is done entirely online at www.MoultrieNews.com/POTW. Reporter Tyler Heffernan chooses one player from each of the three teams and each team’s respective head coach picks one player from his team.

You can only vote once. Every Tuesday, the newest set of nominations are announced on our website. Voting is open until the following Monday at noon, which leaves about six days for voting.

Tyler’s Bishop England pick

Matthew Mellin: The senior kicker connected on all nine extra point attempts and converted a 25-yard field goal.

Bishop England coach John Cantey’s pick

Boo Baird: The junior running back totaled 80 yards on eight carries, and he had two tackles as a cornerback.

Tyler’s Wando pick

Trevor Pedersen: The senior running back stepped up in the fourth quarter, taking snaps at quarterback and running for 82 yards on five carries.

Wando coach Jimmy Noonan’s pick

Kenny Waring: The junior running back exploded for five touchdowns and 208 rushing yards to lead Wando to a win.
