What do dolphins, baseballs and “wheeee” have in common? You can find them all at the 26th annual Town of Mount Pleasant Children’s Day Festival presented by BI-LO at the Park West Recreational Complex on Sunday, Oct. 20, from noon to 5 p.m.
Families will enjoy various activities including live entertainment, giant inflatables, games, mechanical rides, face painting, pony rides, prizes, a petting zoo, reptile exhibits and a South Carolina Aquarium exhibit. As always, admission and all activities are free, and free parking is available next door at Cario Middle School where a shuttle bus will be running.
“Children’s Day offers families the perfect opportunity to get outside and celebrate the arrival of our beautiful fall weather,” said special events planner Nicole Harvey. “This year’s theme is ‘Under the Sea’ and there will be lots of old-fashioned carnival games decorated and run by local schools.”
Local mascots, balloon artists, clowns, Clyde the Cougar, Cool Ray and the BI-LO fruit and vegetable characters will roam throughout the day. Special performances will be given by local dance and gymnastics academies, karate schools and cheerleading squads.
Other entertainment highlights will include musical performances, unicyclist and juggler Mark Lippard, and King of Kazoo Rick Hubbard and special appearances including a magic show by Cupcake the Clown.
Returning partners include Mount Pleasant Waterworks and its annual obstacle course, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department’s fire trucks and smokehouse and the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
We could never do an event like this without the support of our sponsors, who are truly to be commended for their participation in offering this family occasion to our community,” said Harvey. “Of course, we are also grateful for the numerous children, parents, volunteers and vendors whose contributions make this event such a fall favorite for our children.”
BI-LO is returning for its eighth year as presenting sponsor and East Cooper Medical Center is back for year nine as the stage sponsor. The Kiddie Korral is being co-sponsored this year by Art Buzz Kids and South Carolina BLUE. Media sponsors include WCBD TV Channel 2, Y102.5 FM and the Moultrie News.
Concessions will be available for sale to benefit participating East Cooper schools, including Jennie Moore Elementary School, Wando High School, Laurel Hill Primary, Pinckney Elementary School, Mamie Whitesides Elementary, Cario Middle School, East Cooper Montessori Charter School, Laing Middle School, James B. Edwards Elementary and the University School of the Lowcountry.
Animals, bicycles and skateboards are not permitted. For more information, visit www.ComeOnOverMP.com or like the event on Facebook.
