Invisible rabbit ‘appears’ on the Wando stage

  • Friday, October 18, 2013

Get ready to hop to Wando High School’s Performing Arts Center for their fall production of “Harvey,” a play by Mary Chase featuring the adorable Elwood P. Dowd and his invisible friend, a 6-foot-one-inch rabbit named Harvey. Follow Elwood on his hilarious adventures with Harvey as they charm everyone in their path.

The play “Harvey” was the basis for the award-winning movie of the same name, starring Jimmy Stewart. Critics say “Harvey” is a “hilarious, charming comedy” and a “lovable, funny and fun show.”

“Harvey” is directed by Wando drama teacher Christine Kowert, and features a striking set designed by technical director Joshua Hasty. Elwood is brought to life by senior Andrew Mackintosh, with support from seniors Madison Latham as Veta, Rachel Edwards as Myrtle, Noah Kelly as Dr. Sanderson, Kristin Stottler as Kelly, Joseph Landing as Dr. Chumly and Javaron Conyers as Judge Gaffney. Also in the cast are seniors Nathan Quezada, Haley Thomas, Harry Barnes, junior Shea Stanley and freshman Mackenzie Fowler. Senior Margaret McCurry is stage manager, with assistance from senior Sean Barnett.

Wando’s production of “Harvey” will be in Wando’s Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 17-19. The prices are just like they were in the 1950s: just $5 a person. Tickets will be available at the door; cash and checks only, please. For more information, go to www.wandotheatreboosters.com or call 843-375-3537.

Performance is best suited for ages 8 and up. Wando Theatre is partially supported by major sponsors Sonic Drive In, Coastal Carolina Research, and the Landing Financial Group/Raymond James.
