‘Pumpkin church’ again spreading harvest spirit

Earlier this month, students from the University School of the Lowcountry and members of Hibben United Methodist Church unloaded a tractor trailer of pumpkins for this year’s annual “Pumpkin Patch,” located in front of the church at 690 Coleman Blvd. The colorful display of bright orange pumpkins on the front lawn every year, complemented by the occasional “albino” pumpkin and some green gourds, has earned the church the nickname, “The Pumpkin Church” among many Mount Pleasant residents.

For students at the University School, unloading pumpkins is an annual service project. For church members who unload pumpkins and staff the pumpkin patch every day, it’s a mission project, since all proceeds go to missions sponsored by the church.

Whether it’s school teachers looking for the fifty-cent or one-dollar pumpkins to decorate their classrooms for fall, or families looking for the perfect jack-o-lantern, the pumpkin patch has sizes and shapes of pumpkins available. The pumpkin is open daily through Oct. 31: Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday noon-7 p.m.
