Trevor Pedersen won the seventh installment of this year’s Player of the Week contest sponsored by Tony Pope State Farm Insurance of Mount Pleasant between Bishop England, Wando and Palmetto Christian football players.
Pedersen, a senior running back for Wando, was reporter Tyler Heffernan’s pick after he stepped up in the fourth quarter, taking snaps at quarterback and running for 82 yards on five carries, as the Warriors beat West Ashley, Oct. 11.
Pedersen has 448 total yards this season and has done it all on offense. He is averaging nearly six yards per carry with 34 attempts for 202 yards. Pedersen also has 24 receptions for 240 yards. And, he’s even aired it out on occasion, gaining 46 yards on 5-of-7 passing.
With the win, Wando tied Palmetto Christian with three wins apiece in this friendly rivalry contest. Bishop England has one win during this series this season. Bishop England kicker Matthew Mellin came in second with Battling Bishops teammate Boo Baird grabbing third in the past week’s voting totals.
Every week during the high school football season, you vote among six players – two from each of the three East Cooper programs – for who you think is most deserving of the title of Player of the Week.
The voting process is done entirely online at www.MoultrieNews.com/POTW. Reporter Tyler Heffernan chooses one player from each of the three teams and each team’s respective head coach picks one player from his team.
You can only vote once. Every Tuesday, the newest set of nominations are announced on our website. Voting is open until the following Monday at noon, which leaves about six days for voting.
