It’s hard to beat the Stratford football team this season. Maybe it can’t be done.

This past Friday, Wando joined a growing list of schools to try its luck and come up short in a 35-7 loss to the Knights at Stackley Field.

Stratford (8-0 overall, 2-0 region) quarterback Jacob Park - and Georgia commit - broke the program record for single-season passing yards by throwing for 223 with two touchdowns. Wide receivers Tyree Scroggins and Thad Thompson combined for 13 catches and 171 yards, and running back Jameak Jones gained 81 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Knights put up 465 total yards of offense while holding the Warriors to 190, including just 37 in the first half to own a 21-0 halftime advantage.

Wando junior running back and offensive catalyst Kenny Waring had a season-low 31 rushing yards. He also caught two passes for 87 yards.

Wando tried three different quarterbacks - Bailey Hart, Will Coleman and Trevor Pedersen - but each had limited success. Coleman led the team in passing yards with 115 but threw an interception.

The Warriors (3-5, 1-1) avoided being shut out when Waring scored from three yards out in the fourth quarter.

This week, Wando will try again to knock off an unbeaten state powerhouse in No. 3-ranked Goose Creek. The Gators have been largely unchallenged this season with an 8-0 record and 32.3 average margin of victory.
