Whit Hobgood rushed for two touchdowns and Jack Weil booted two crucial extra points as the Ikon Financial Group Raiders slipped past the Coastline Property Management Packers 16-14 in MPRD Small Fry (8-9 year olds) football action.
The Raiders held the ball the entire firstt quarter as Hobgood and Caden Schier ran behind the strong blocking of Thomas Bryant, Bryce Scharling, Colin Fallaw, Luke Bishop and Seabrook Kellett. Hobgood would sneak in behind center Carson Woodard from a yard out to finish the drive, and with Weil’s extra point the Raiders went into halftime with an 8-0 advantage.
The Packers offense led by Jacob Johnson, Rico Harrell, Justin Horry and Harrison Hanks would respond in the second half, as Horry rumbled for two touchdowns. The Packers were unable to convert the extra point on Horry’s first touchdown though and Hobgood’s 3-yard touchdown run in the second half and Weil’s second extra point proved to be the difference.
Coach Hobgood and the Ikon Financial Group Raiders capped an undefeated regular season at 8-0 with the win, while Coach Davey and the Coastline Property Management Packers finished as regular season runners-up with a 6-2 record.
