The South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association officially established the Mr. Football award in 1995. The announcement of the winner is part of the weeklong activities surrounding the annual all-star football game.
“We created the award to bring some excitement and attention to the all-star game,” says Keith Richardson, co-director of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl. “It’s probably brought us as much attention as anything we’ve ever done.”
