Shiver wins Player of the Week, next nominations announced
Nick Shiver won the eighth installment of this year’s Player of the Week contest sponsored by Tony Pope State Farm Insurance of Mount Pleasant between Bishop England, Wando and Palmetto Christian football players.
Shiver, a senior running back for Bishop England, was reporter Tyler Heffernan’s pick after he ran for 162 yards on just 12 carries and two touchdowns against Garrett, Oct. 18.
Shiver has 89 carries for 1,153 yards (13 yards-per-carry average) and 16 touchdowns this season. He’s also been effective as a receiver, catching three passes for 61 yards and a touchdown.
With the win, Bishop England has narrowed Wando’s and Palmetto Christian’s lead in this friendly rivalry contest. Wando and Palmetto Christian each have three wins, while Bishop England now has two victories.
This week, Wando’s Tyler Ragsdale came in second behind Shiver. Palmetto Christian’s Will Tuchfarber grabbed third place in the public voting.
Every week during the high school football season, you vote among six players – two from each of the three East Cooper programs – for who you think is most deserving of the title of Player of the Week.
The voting process is done entirely online at www.MoultrieNews.com/POTW. Reporter Tyler Heffernan chooses one player from each of the three teams and each team’s respective head coach picks one player from his team.
You can only vote once. Every Tuesday, the newest set of nominations are announced on our website. Voting is open until the following Monday at noon, which leaves about six days for voting.
