Halloween can be scary time for animals
The Charleston Animal Society is asking the public to be mindful that while Halloween may be the ultimate time of revelry for some, the season can present a number of hazards for four-legged friends.
According to Dr. Brittany Watson Tisa, Veterinary Director of Continuing Education Initiatives at Charleston Animal Society, there are safety tips to which pet owners should adhere:
1. Keep candy treats from pets. Many of them are poisonous to animals including chocolate, sugar-free gum and even fatty foods. Empty wrappers also can be dangerous for pets.
2. Trick-or-treaters and Halloween festivities are scary to many animals. Confine your animals indoors in a back room to keep them calm.
3. Make sure your pet has identification as well as a microchip in case it gets loose.
