Palmetto Christian drops second consecutive region game
The Hilton Head Christian football team spoiled Palmetto Christian’s senior night game this past Friday night, beating the host at Park West Field, 45-36.
The group of seniors that has transcended the Eagles’ program couldn’t celebrate its final regular season home game.
Instead, it was the second consecutive loss for Palmetto Christian, which started 5-1 this season.
Palmetto Christian led 14-6 after the first quarter but was outscored 32-16 in the second and third quarters, and the Eagles never recovered.
Senior running back Ryan Roe had 168 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns. Fellow senior J.T.
Waters also scored two rushing touchdowns and had 98 yards on the ground and 234 through the air on 20-of-32 passing. Waters threw a touchdown and two interceptions.
Junior wide receiver Chase Shimakonis had a team-high seven catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two 2-point conversions and recovered a fumble on defense.
Defensively, junior Martinez Finney collected six solo tackles and one assist. Freshman Thomas Gunn had six solo tackles.
Hilton Head Christian (6-2 overall, 3-0 region) has scored 42 or more points in five consecutive games.
It can clinch the region title with a win on Friday against Hilton Head Prep, which is winless in region action this season.
In the past two defeats, Palmetto Christian has allowed 96 points.
The Eagles will look to return to the win column in their regular season finale at Heyward Academy.
The Rebels are 7-3 overall and 2-1 in region play.
Two weeks ago, they lost to Hilton Head Christian, 45-14.
