State teams win titles at USTA SC Combo League Championships

From the Lowcountry to Upstate, teams from all over the state won state league titles at the USTA South Carolina Combo League Championships.

The combo championships, the largest USTA SC tournament, ran for five days at 12 different sites on Hilton Head Island. In total, 28 state championships were earned and more than 2,000 players participated. The winning teams can now advance to the Combo Doubles Southern Sectional Championships to be held early next year. The 18 and Over sectional championships are scheduled for Feb. 28 through March 2, in Mobile, Ala. The 40 and Over and 55 and Over championships are scheduled for March 7-9, in Dothan, Ala.

Lowcountry Tennis Association: Six champions, two finalists

18 and Over Women Level 5.5 champion, captain Chris Ramsey.

18 and Over Women Level 6.5 finalist, captain Kristin Eddy.

18 and Over Women Level 7.5 finalist, captain Patricia Dever.

40 and Over Women Level 6.5 champion, captain Marie Cunningham.

40 and Over Women Level 7.5 champion, captain Leah Biller.

55 and Over Women Level 7.5 champion, captain Joette Creager.

65 and Over Women Level 6.5 champion, captain Penelope Gorby.

65 and Over Women level 7.5 champion, captain Elisabeth Pickelsimer.
