Team 4 Super Heroes launched trunk-or-treat program
Mount Pleasant police officers disguised as crime fighting super heroes treated hundreds of Belle Hall Elementary School children to safety tips and candy on Halloween day.
“Halloween is a great time to let the inner hero out, but it is also a time for caution and common sense,” said PFC. Dustin Eugley. “The new Trunk-or-Treat program is a way for children to have fun while learning some important Halloween safety tips.”
PFC Eugley, who spearheaded the idea with the help of his wife, a local school teacher, was Batman. His colleague and co-organizer PFC Tamika Brown McGee was Batwoman.
Team 4 drove to Belle Hall Elementary School on Halloween day with decorated police cruisers and trunks filled with candy. The children learned about important safety tips from Crime Prevention Officer Bryce Gregory and McGruff the Crime Dog and later spent time trick-or-treating with their favorite super heroes.
“Our new Trunk-or-Treat program is our way of making sure our youngest community members remain safe,” said Police Chief Carl Ritchie. “While most residents look at the bigger dangers of trick or treating, they forget it is the everyday traffic rules that tend to be forgotten on Halloween.”
The following officers were involved in the Trunk-or-Treat Program: Officer Eugley (Captain America); Officer Tamika Brown (Bat woman); Officer Scott (Ironman); Officer Strode (Superman); Officer K. Smith (Batman); Officer Wang (GI Joe); Officer Alexander (Spiderman) and Officer Boyd (Wolverine).
PFC Eugley thanked the following sponsors for their contributions to Trunk-or-Treat program: Baskin Robbins; BI-LO – Shelmore Boulevard; Cici’s Pizza; Dollar General; Dollar Tree; First Reliance Bank; Glasspro; John Egan of Egan Spirits; Leatha “Lisa” Bennette of Floyd Brace; Mattress Hub; Precision Tune; Spirit Line Cruises; Mount Pleasant Towne Centre; Walmart – Oakland Market; and Wendy’s – Houston Northcutt Boulevard.
