Blue Heron Acupuncture and Apothecary celebrates its official launch with free, interactive events for the public, culminating in an art show featuring artist Lisa Shimko.

The acupuncture clinic will unveil its new location and services while engaging friends and visitors in complimentary meditation, qi gong, ear acupuncture, Chinese massage, educational talks and a celebratory art show.

This full day event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Blue Heron Acupuncture and Apothecary, located at 680A King Street in the Upper King Street Design District.

As holistic medicine practitioners, the owners of Blue Heron Acupuncture and Apothecary see community, art and relationships with other providers as significant.

With this perspective, they have invited local artist Lisa Shimko to exhibit her art as part of their ribbon-cutting reception.

Her series of water-inspired paintings reflect an appreciation for the rhythms and landscape of the natural world that resonate with the philosophy of Chinese Medicine.

During the evening reception, holistic health coach Stephanie Burg will provide light hors d’oeuvres that reflect healthy eating for the season, and the Blue Heron practitioners will offer wine and Chinese medicinal teas. Participants are invited to enjoy a day of beauty, learning and connecting.

Blue Heron Acupuncture and Apothecary is a Classical Chinese acupuncture and herbal medicine clinic. It is staffed by licensed acupuncturists who completed four-year Master’s Degree programs that included two-year, 800-hour clinical internships.

They are nationally certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine and licensed to practice in South Carolina. Practitioners Lisa Abernathy and Lauren Becker take a holistic approach to treating a wide variety of conditions.

The clinic helps patients meet their health goals with acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional counseling, Chinese massage, essential oils and collaborations with other healthcare providers.

Gracing the realms of abstract and surrealist art, Lisa Shimko’s newest paintings offer an intimate engagement with aquatic biomes.

They act as meditations upon tactile, visual and intellectual sensations that arise from immersion in the Lowcountry’s waterways and terra.

Shimko’s art is a reminder of the winding journey waters take as they meander and dip from high terrain to low on their journey to the sea. Feeding this body of work are many excursions on boats as well as the artist’s ongoing gathering of information.

The grand opening reception and art show will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. with additional free activities held earlier in the day.

The clinic’s neighbor, cafe Twenty Six Divine, will also open its doors for the evening, inviting guests in to sample delectable fine foods.

Blue Heron Acupuncture and Apothecary is located at 680A King Street in downtown Charleston. Learn more about the clinic at www.blueheroncharleston.com and Lisa Shimko’s art at www.shimkoart.com.
