Congressional Medal of Honor stamp to be unveiled at Lowcountry Veterans Day events

The United States Postal Service invites members of the media for two Veterans Day events which will feature unveiling ceremonies for the new Congressional Medal of Honor-World War II stamps.

WHO: The U.S. Postal Service, Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum and the City of North Charleston. Patriots Point is the location of the National Congressional of Honor Museum. Charleston Officer-In-Charge, Kevin Young will deliver remarks at the Patriots Point event, Veterans Day Celebration. Moncks Corner Postmaster, Kim Williams will address the North Charleston event, A Tribute To Our Veterans.

WHAT: First-Day–of-Sale event for the new Medal of Honor WWII stamps honoring the surviving recipients. The first stamps issued for living honorees. The stamp folio will be available for sale, and a special commemorative pictorial cancellation will be available at both events.

WHEN: Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11; Patriots Point, 9:30 a.m. to noon; North Charleston, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE: Patriots Point, 40 Patriots Point Road; North Charleston, Park Circle, 1156 E Montague Ave.

WHY: The Postal Service is issuing the stamps depicting the Medals of Honor and including photographs of the living recipients on the stamp sheet as an appropriate way to recognize the living while still paying respect to all 464 recipients whose names are included in the Medal of Honor World War II Forever stamp prestige folio. The official First-Day-of-Issue event will take place in Washington, DC on the National Mall on Veterans Day.
