Christiana comes home.
After a brave and courageous 16-month battle with a rare bone cancer, Christiana Marie (Ashe) Gilliland, fondly known to family and friends as “Nani,” passed away on October 24, 2013, at the age of 23 at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, Calif.
Christiana resided with her family in Parish Place and attended James B. Edwards Elementary, Moultrie Middle and was a 2008 graduate of Wando High School. Her passion was music and helping animals in need. She worked at Andolini’s, Whole Foods and Sette in Mount Pleasant before moving to Guam in 2010 to help her mom and aunt with the care of her grandmother, where she found one of her passions working as a certified veterinary technician.
Christiana is predeceased by her grandfather, William G. Ashe. She is survived by her grandmother, Carmen P. Ashe (Guam); mother, Barbara Ann Ashe; father, Larry “Keith” Gilliland (Florida); brothers, Christopher Ashe-Arriola and Campbell Gilliland; sisters, Victoria A. Witherspoon and Carléy E. Gilliland; brother-in-law, Luke Witherspoon; nephew and niece, Xavier and Makenna Ashe-Arriola; uncles, Harold, Bill, Ken and Tom Ashe, and Villamor Santiago; aunts, Elizabeth Ashe Santiago, Lynette, Suzanne and Tanja Ashe, and Kathy Steinmeyer and numerous cousins.
Services for Christiana will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Christ our King Catholic Church, followed by her internment at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family asks you to join them for lunch following Christiana’s internment, at the Lazarus House next to Christ our King Church.
