Mount Pleasant Academy was visited by Native American storyteller and naturalist Hawk Hurst on Nov. 7. South Carolina history came alive for the students as Hurst shared stories about the native people of the Southeast and demonstrated hunting tools likely to have been used by the local Sewee tribe. He also played handcrafted flutes, drums and maracas made from animal materials. The program was funded by the MPA Environmental Committee through the sale of “green” uniform T-shirts and water bottles.
