The Casey Community Center has a new roof.

The roof is beige and weatherproof. A crew of five NTEC Systems employees from Georgia carried out the work continuing into their third week this week, climbing on ladders, lifting 600-pound paint barrels onto the back of a specially-equipped pickup truck, and hooking up airlift spray nozzles that look like fuel pumps with longer necks to stream paint from the barrels to the rooftop.

The extreme summer rains this year caused the Casey Center to cancel a number of gymnastics practices due to severe leaks.

The roof of the building that has stood off Old Moncks Corner Road since 1978 was repaired 10 years ago.

This new roof is set to last at least two years.

In October Goose Creek City Council passed a second reading of its hospitality tax, which is set to raise funds to build a second community center that will house gymnastics and related activities.

The roof repair cost in 2003 was $40,000. The roof repair cost this year was $53,000.
