Wando volleyball ended its 2013 season as the Lower State Champions. They defeated Aiken High 3-2 at a home crowd of 1200 people on Nov. 7 to solidify the bid to the state championship game on Nov 9.
Wando at the state championship, led by seniors, Natalie Tucker, Britney Vallez, Alex Casale and Maddie Kennedy, jumped out to a 2-0 on the upper state champion and two-time defending state champion Hillcrest High School (Simpsonville). Elisa Aldrich led the attack for the evening with 11 kllls and nine blocks, Maggie Marsh helped out with nine kills and five blocks and Daley Gosnell had eight kills. Senior setter Natalie Tucker had 34 assists and 4 kills. Libero Megan Morris and DS Alex Casale combined for 39 defensive digs. Hillcrest then retaliated and tied the sets 2-2.
Set number five was a point-for-point battle until seven and then Hillcrest pulled away with the deciding game going to 15. In an an emotional game, the Warriors lost 9-15.
