New Bar Closing Ordinance Takes Effect Dec. 1 in Unincorporated Areas of Charleston County

Certain establishments in unincorporated areas of Charleston County will close at 2 a.m. beginning on Sunday, Dec. 1.

Bars and restaurants serving alcohol in unincorporated areas of Charleston County will close at 2 a.m. beginning on Sunday, Dec. 1. The ordinance passed the third and final reading during Charleston County Council’s meeting on June 18 after a public hearing on the same evening.

Specifically, Charleston County’s ordinance amends Section 13-3 of the Charleston County Code of Ordinances as follows: “Commercial establishments which allow for the on-premises consumption of beer, ale, porter, wine, and/or alcoholic liquors shall be prohibited from operating between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.”
