Wedding crasher

  • Friday, November 29, 2013

Police were called to a parking lot because a security guard there came upon a man who looked like he was about to punch the window out of a truck he was standing by.

The suspect was extremely drunk and when the security officer got a closer look, it appeared that two trucks had been vandalized with scratched and busted windshield. Beside the trucks was a stop sign that had been ripped out of the ground.

He was escorted to the lobby and police were called.

The suspect told officers he had been at a wedding in Awendaw and mistakenly been dropped off at this hotel parking lot. He said his friends left him there.

He said he did not know what happened to the trucks but did see the stop sign lying in the grass.

The officer told him to be honest and that is when he admitted to picking up the stop sign and tossing it farther into the grass. But he swore he did not mess with the trucks.

There was no way to prove his story wrong, so he was arrested for public intoxicated because according to the report his level of intoxication was quite evident.

He was placed in the patrol car and complained about his handcuffs being too tight. They were adjusted and off to the jail they went.

On the way there he apologized for wasting the officers time and explained that he really was a good person.

He slurred his words as he again said he only picked up the stop sign and tossed it further.

Once at the jail he was searched and had to sit on the floor to put his shoes back on because he could not keep his balance standing up.

An ongoing investigation was launched into the damaged trucks and stop sign.
