B.J. Grevey scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Bishop England Battling Bishops to an 87-46 win over the Coastal Christian Cougars Friday in day two of the Military Magnet Thanksgiving Classic.
Bishop England (1-1) fed off its defense most of the day, applying a full-court press that forced 19 steals. The Bishops dominated the boards, outrebounding the Cougars 42-20. They’ll pulled down 25 defensive rebounds a limited Coastal to just four offensive.
“We challenged them with a goal of cutting down on the turnovers and doing a better job on the boards and I think we did that today,” Bishop England head coach Bryan Grevey said. “From the first player to the last, I thought we really did a good job of defending, rebounding, and running our sets.”
The Bishops scored the first eight points of the game as part of a 13-2 run through the opening four minutes. Grevey caught fire in the second quarter, turning in 13 points to help the Bishops open a 50-27 lead by halftime.
Dillon Corbett finished the day with 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Bishops. Taylor Howell added 12 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Reed Fosberry led the team with five steals, four assists and just one turnover.
Bishop England increased the pressure in the third quarter, stifling the Coastal ball handlers in the backcourt. The Bishops outscored the Cougars 19-4 in the quarter with the only Coastal field goal coming from a Raquan Gregg three at the buzzer. Gregg led Coastal with 23 points but received little help as only three other Cougars scored, and none in double figures.
“Defensively, we had a goal in mind and we accomplished that,” Grevey said. “Any win is a good win. We’ve practiced hard and these kids really deserved a victory. Hopefully we can get another one tomorrow.”
Bishop England advances in the consolation bracket to play Garrett Tech at 3 p.m. Sunday for fifth place the final day of the tournament. Garrett rolled past Lincoln 100-46 Friday.
