The Bishop England Lady Bishops dismantled the Military Magnet Eagles 75-6 Friday in the opening round of the Military Magnet Thanksgiving Classic.

The Lady Bishops (1-0) dominated every facet of the game. They allowed the Eagles just two made field goals all day — both coming in the first quarter. The Eagles shot 9 percent from the field and gave up 26 steals. Bishop England controlled the boards, outrebounding Military Magnet, 40-18.

“I think it was just a matter of doing the right things,” Bishop England head coach Paul Runey said. “They go after it. They go out there and play hard, do the best they can and what happens, happens.”

What happened was a 51-2 run through the final three quarters. The Bishops turned defense into offense, working the outlet and routinely beating the Eagles down the court. Michele Boykin finished with a game-high 25 points on 77 percent shooting to go with seven steals and four assists. Mary Harriet Moore added 13 points, 10 rebounds and four steals.

Neither logged major minutes as Runey was able to use the large lead to divvy playing time throughout 15 different players. Fourteen different Lady Bishops scored Friday and 13 grabbed at least one rebound.

“Being able to play everyone pretty significant minutes helps the whole team’s confidence,” Runey said. “We knew coming into the game we were going to be better than them. So what you look for is for the girls to be fundamentally sound. We’re not trying to run the score up on anybody. We just wanted to play hard because a game like this, it is what it is.”

Bishop England advances to play Stall Saturday in the championship round. Stall defeated Baptist Hill 60-44 Friday.
