Jenkins Institute celebrates 122 year milestone
Saturday, Dec. 7, will be an evening of celebration and community at the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church Family Life Center from 6 to 9 p.m. as The Daniel J. Jenkins Institute for Children marks a historic milestone of 122 years of serving children and unveils its new vision for the future. Newly-elected state Senator Marlon Kimpson has been chosen to deliver the keynote address at the organization’s 23rd annual fundraising banquet, aptly themed “Expanding the Mission”.
According to Executive Director Johanna Martin-Carrington, attendees at this year’s event are in for a treat. “This year’s banquet features a blending of the traditional aspects of past banquets and includes a special presentation that showcases aspects of the organization’s new direction,” she said. “We thought it important to provide attendees with a glimpse of the vision and the future of what the next 122 years holds for Jenkins Institute and its involvement with the community.”
A 501c3 nonprofit organization, the Jenkins Institute for Children has provided a residential group program for girls 12-21 years of age, after school programs, Title I Math/Reading programs, community performing arts programs, recreation programs and a community pavilion. The organization serves children across the state of South Carolina regardless of race, color, creed or religion. Proceeds from this year’s celebration will go to support the initiatives and activities listed above, in addition to supporting the organization’s master strategic planning initiative.
During this year’s celebration, Senator Marlon Kimpson has graciously agreed to deliver the keynote address and will be providing inspiration to those in attendance in keeping with the theme for the evening. Additionally, entertainment will be provided by soloist Robin Harris, the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church Praise Dancers, and the evening’s mistress of ceremony will be Rev. Dr. Arlecia Simmons, associate minister, Tabernacle Baptist Church. Tickets to the event are $35 per person and may be purchased by visiting http://jenkinsinstitute.eventbrite.com or by calling the organization’s office at 843-744-1771.
