Festival of Lights benefits Lowcountry Food Bank

  • Thursday, December 5, 2013

With more than two million shimmering lights, the Holiday Festival of Lights is shining brightly at James Island County Park every night until Dec. 31. This three-mile driving tour features more than 750 displays and so much more. What’s your best bet to get the most out of the festival this year? Come Monday through Thursday, and bring a canned food item.

For many years, the Holiday Festival of Lights has collected non-perishable canned food items at the festival gate for donation to the Lowcountry Food Bank. Last year was a record-breaking year for donations. More than 8,200 pounds of food were donated, which equated to an estimated 6,800 meals. This year, event organizers with the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission have set a goal of collecting 10,000 pounds of canned food items. Canned or non-perishable dog or cat food items are also being accepted for donation.

On Monday through Thursday, festival-goers who bring a non-perishable canned food item for donation will save $5 off their vehicle admission fee (of up to 15 passengers). Not to mention, these days traditionally experience less traffic, so you’ll save on time as well. For more information, call 843-795-4386 or visit www.holidayfestivaloflights.com.
