The Etiwan District of the Boy Scouts of America (East Cooper area) held its Fall 2013 Camporee themed around First Aid at the Santee Coastal Reserve campground Friday, Nov. 15 through Sunday, Nov. 17. In attendance were many Boy Scout troops and Cub Scout packs from the East Cooper area. Attendance was approximately 150 leaders and boys.
Events held during the day included A-Frame walking, Stretcher Races, Kim’s Game and many other activities for the boys in which to compete in regards to First Aid.
The Boy Scout troops as well as individual patrols involved competed in several areas including campsite inspections, games, dessert competition and campfire events. This event was the first Etiwan District event to have several new awards for the best troop and best patrol. The very first ever Camp Master Award was awarded to Troop 529 lead by Senior Patrol Leader Andrew Zimmerman and Scoutmaster Sean O’Toole.
The Baden Powell Patrol Award “Best Patrol” was given to the Bat Patrol led by Patrol Leader Rory O’Toole and the following boys Christian Zimmerman, Kyle Carretta, Ian Underkofler, Kevin Bennett, Christian Irelan, Cullen Orcutt and Daniel Grant.
Bill Jenkins, Etiwan District outdoor chair, stated, “What a great event for these boys to learn their first aid skills and especially in such a beautiful setting.”
