DIG SOUTH Interactive Festival, the Southeast’s first event celebrating the digital economy, announced it is now accepting Bitcoin currency for registration. Bitcoin, the first open source, peer-to-peer electronic money, will now be recognized as payment for all-access and single-day passes.
“As a festival that embraces innovation, DIG SOUTH is excited to be one of the first events to accept Bitcoin for registration,” said festival founder Stanfield Gray. “Bitcoin and the disruptive movement it represents is a great example of the innovation and risk-taking we celebrate at DIG SOUTH.”
Held April 9-13, DIG SOUTH will feature a two-day interactive conference plus tech and creative industry expo, one-day Culturama, Wild Pitch entrepreneur/investor event, Space Walk, HACKCharleston Challenge, Deep Dive workshops, concerts showcasing national touring artists, comedians and endless networking opportunities. To learn more about these and other featured events or to register, go to digsouth.com.
To use Bitcoin for payment, registrants simply select the Bitcoin registration tab from the festival website and follow instructions on the dedicated Bitcoin page. Confirmation, payment receipt and conference materials are delivered exactly as they would be for traditional payment sources.
According to the Bitcoin Project Website, Bitcoin uses peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority or banks; managing transactions and the issuing of bitcoins is carried out collectively by the network. Bitcoin is open-source; its design is public, nobody owns or controls Bitcoin and everyone can take part. Through many of its unique properties, Bitcoin allows exciting uses that could not be covered by any previous payment system.
DIG SOUTH will feature 150+ presenters from Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Buzzfeed, Inc. Magazine, Red Hat, SPAWAR, IBM, Mass Relevance, nclud, PeopleMatter, Benefitfocus, McKinney, Digitas, American Underground, Startup Foundry, Whatif! Innovation and many more.
