Johnny Whitaker is best remembered for his roles as Jody on CBS Television’s “Family Affair” and as Tom Sawyer in the 1973 Reader’s Digest musical film adaptation of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.” He will bring his master class to South of Broadway Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 28 at the theatre, 1080 East Montague Ave. Olde Village of North Charleston off Park Circle. Whitaker portrayed Johnny Stuart on NBC Television’s Saturday Morning series “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.” As a child, Johnny starred in more than five major motion pictures including “The Russians Are Coming! The Russians are Coming!” as well as Disney’s “Napoleon” and “Samantha and Snowball Express.” He guest starred on numerous television series, including “Bewitched,” “Green Acres,” “Bonanza” and “Gunsmoke.”

Whitaker served as a presenter in the 2007 TV Land Awards with Kelly Ripa, the Judds, Willie Nelson and the cast of the television mini-series “Roots.” He has been a venerated guest on numerous talk shows including “Geraldo” and “Oprah,” as well as a special guest on biopic documentaries. He received critical theatrical acclaim in “Run For Your Wife” with Linda Blair, Charlene Tilton (“Dallas”), and Eddie Meckka (“LaVerne and Shirley”).

For the past 15 years, Whitaker has been a co-owner and consultant on children’s issues as well as the career path advisor for LA Kidz Management, a division of Whitaker Entertainment with his sister, talent manager Dora Whitaker. He has served as the national secretary of the Young Performer’s Committee of The Screen Actors’ Guild/The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG/AFTRA), having advocated the creation of new legislation in California that is used as a national and international model for the benefit of children working in entertainment.

His master acting classes have been well received throughout the country for over 20 years. Having more than 50 years’ experience in front of and behind the camera, Whitaker has the knowledge and talent to help you be the best you can be. His on-point instruction includes cold reading and relaxation techniques, voice and articulation and specific acting demonstration activities that are critical to landing the part. He believes that acting is a life art: “All of us are ‘acting’ on a daily basis. Knowing how to do it right will only enhance any position or situation in your personal and professional life.”
