Eagles drop two at Wilson Hall tourney

The Palmetto Christian Eagles dropped back-to-back games this weekend in the Wilson Hall Baron Classic in Sumter.

Palmetto Christian (2-6) suffered a 62-50 loss to Laurence Manning Academy Friday before falling 65-49 to First Baptist Saturday.

Eagles guard Chris DeMarco led all scorers Friday with 23 points, on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc, to go with 10 rebounds and a steal. Will Tuchfarber added 10 points and four rebounds.

Vaughnte Anderson turned in 20 for Laurence Manning, while Shakei Green added 16 and Mark Pipkin 12.

Palmetto Christian again had the game’s high scorer in Saturday’s loss to First Baptist as Mitch Hogan turned in 19 points and seven rebounds. J.T. Waters scored 10 points, handed out seven assists and grabbed five rebounds. Tuchfarber scored 10 with six rebounds.

Hudson Taylor led First Baptist with 17 points, Shaquille Richardson added 16 and Tyler Garvin 11.

Palmetto Christian was outscored in every quarter of both games.

Thursday, the Eagles return home, looking to rebound against the Lowcountry Wildcats at 7:30 p.m.

The Palmetto Christian Lady Eagles (2-6) dropped both games this weekend with a 66-43 loss to Laurence Manning and a 54-47 loss to First Baptist.

Corey Caulder turned in 24 points, five assists and four steals with just one turnover against Laurence Manning. Lizzie Wilson added nine point and five rebounds, and Annie Pascutti blocked five shots, grabbed six rebounds and scored eight points.

Trailing by seven points in the fourth quarter against First Baptist Saturday, Palmetto Christian turned in their highest-scoring quarter of the day to tie the game and force overtime. Knotted at 45, the teams pushed to a second overtime where the Lady Eagles ran out of gas, scoring just two points while allowing First Baptist 10.

Caulder, Wilson and Pascutti combined to score 36 points.

McKayla Rhodes led all scorers with 22 for First Baptist, while Emily Peters added 12.
