As volunteers, CAC’s and certified Healthcare Navigators continue their second week of signing up people in Charleston for coverage under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) at the Lowcountry #Getcovered Surge Center, the location’s historic and cultural context has attracted national attention.
A photo shows the impact of the center as in the foreground two volunteers direct people to the center where hundreds of people have already visited to learn more about the act, to receive navigation assistance throughout the entire sign-up process or to resolve problems with applications they’ve started online at home.
In the background the Schooner Pride, a tall ship, raises her sails to prepare for a voyage on Charleston Harbor. Beyond that the signature Ravenel Bridge, Patriots Point and Historic Charleston harbor are in view. Three centuries of history, often marked by conflict in reflected in a single image.
Also unique to this center is their getcovered tree, now covered with hand decorated ornaments, one for each person the center has helped to getcovered since it opened. The eleven foot tree greets visitors as the enter the lobby. Images of the tree can be found on the center’s Facebook page.
