The Red's Ice House Sharks captured the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department men's flag football league championship Tuesday with a 17-0 win over the Buckeyes at Town Hall.
Former Lowcountry preps standout Ryan Steed turned in a big night on offense, defense and special teams to lift the Sharks (8-4) to the championship win. Steed gave the Sharks an early three-point lead with a 35-yard field goal in the first half.
Steed later hooked up with Austin Friddle on a 10-yard screen pass to open a two-score Sharks advantage with eight minutes to play in the game.
The Sharks defense sealed the win late in the fourth quarter as lineman Patrick Hickman deflected a Buckeyes pass into the hands of Steed who returned it 95 yards for the score.
"Everyone played like warrior poets," Friddle said. "The redbirds are flying strong." Steed was named the Sharks' Most Valuable Player, along with Friddle who received co-MVP honors.
The Buckeyes finish the season 7-5.
