PCA, BE both win day two of Carolina Invitational

Bishop England and Palmetto Christian both picked up wins Saturday in day two of the 3rd annual Carolina Invitational girls holiday tournament in Charleston.

Both teams fell into consolation brackets after suffering opening-round losses on Friday. But with wins on Saturday, both have an opportunity to claim fifth place in their respective brackets.

In the Harbor Division, Palmetto Christian topped James Island Christian 54-30 at St. John's High School on John's Island. Bishop England rolled past West Mecklenburg (N.C) 56-30 at home in the Palmetto Division.

Palmetto Christian will face Cross at 9:30 a.m. Monday, while Bishop England takes on Greenbriar (Ga.) at 11 a.m.

Palmetto Christian 54, James Island Christian 30

Annie Pascutti scored 24 points to lead all scoreres while the Eagles defense dominated, holding James Island to eight points or fewer in each of the first three quarters.

Pascutti shot 11-of-15 from the field, pulled down eight rebounds and grabbed two steals. Corey Caulder added six points, nine rebounds and three steals, and Parker Emerson scored nine.

Palmetto Christian built a 14-point lead by halftime, and sealed the game in third, outscoring James Island 15-8.

Bishop England 56, West Mecklenburg 30

Mary Harriet Moore scored 18 points with 12 rebounds, and Michele Boykin added 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists as the Lady Bishops returned to their usual dominant form.

West Mecklenburg managed just eight points in the first half against a stifling Bishops defense. Moore and Boykin combined for 25 first-half points to lead Bishop England to a 35-8 halftime advantage.

Eran Antigues finished with five points, four assists and three steals, and Erin Rose added five points for Bishop England.

Lashanda Mayela led West Mecklenburg with six points, while T'Nyah James added five. West Mecklenburg was limited to just 26 percent shooting form the field and only scored more than 10 points in one of four quarters. //
