The recent heist of Pappy Van Winkle has created a heated black market for fans of this rare small batch bourbon, considered the best in the world by most critics. A recent survey revealed a very limited quantity on reserve at a handful of noted restaurants. Many of those plan to offer it to select customers during special occasions.
Bottles of Pappy’s 20-year-old batch released this year sell online from $1,300 to $2,000 a bottle. There is, however, a glimmer of hope for Charleston Pappy enthusiasts who manage to secure a VIP ticket to Bacon and Bourbon on Saturday, Feb. 8.
In addition to pours of this rare Pappy Van Winkle, a VIP ticket rewards guests with lectures from bacon and bourbon experts at an exclusive pre-event Charcuterie Hour. The kickoff from 6:30-7:30 p.m. pairs rare bourbon with signature charcuterie from Barsa’s chef, Cole Poolaw and Wild Olive/Obstinate Daugther’s chef, Jacques Larson. Only 100 VIP tickets are available at $75 each and an additional batch of 50 tickets will be released in January for $95 each.
General admission for Bacon and Bourbon is $60. This all-inclusive ticket features unlimited bacon-centric bites from 12 area restaurants and bourbon from 16 distilleries, including newcomers Striped Pig and High Wire Distillery.
