Palmetto Christian wins region openers

Corey Caulder scored 35 points, with 16 rebounds and seven steals Friday to lead the Palmetto Christian Lady Eagles to a 52-42 home win over Calhoun Academy in the SCISA Region II-2A opener.

Caulder shot 8-11 from the field, including 2-3 from three. Annie Pascutti scored seven points with 11 rebounds, and Parker Emerson added six points.

Palmetto Christian (4-8, 1-0) jumped on top early with a 17-point first quarter. The Lady Eagles limited Calhoun to just 15 points through the first half while they stretched opened a 14-point halftime advantage.

The Palmetto Christian boys followed with a 68-50 win to complete the Eagles' region-opening sweep.

Chris Demarco scored a game-high 17 points. J.T. Waters added 12 and seven assists.

Palmetto Christian (4-7, 1-0) scored 23 points in the opening frame and added another 20 in the second, while limiting Calhoun to just 21 in the first half. Palmetto Christian opened a lead as large as 21 points and never allowed Calhoun to come within single digits after the first quarter.

Joe Siegwald and Mitch Hogan each added nine points for Palmetto Christian. Jackson Flemming led Calhoun with 16 points, and Ryan Sandifer turned in 10. //
