News from Coastal Carolina University

Some 166 students walked across the stage at Coastal Carolina University’s commencement exercises on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the HTC Center to receive their degrees. Approximately 300 students were eligible candidates for graduation.

Graduation candidates included:

•MaryClaire Chalfant, of Mount Pleasant, SC, earned a Bachelor of Science Business Administration degree in Marketing,

•Corey Frankosky, of Mount Pleasant, SC, earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Business Administration,

•Josie Hull, of Mount Pleasant, SC, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology,

•Iain Riddle, of Mount Pleasant, SC, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Sport Management,

Clemson University

Local residents graduated from Clemson University. They are:

•Zachary John Geiger of Charleston, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

•Lisa Mary Hughes of Charleston, who graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Management (General Management Emphasis)

•Christian Gerard Anthony Gaeta of Isle of Palms, who graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

•Leigh Ann Allison of Mount Pleasant, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

•Jordan Richard Behringer of Mount Pleasant, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

•Thomas Justin Bunting of Mount Pleasant, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

•Robert Paul Crossland of Mount Pleasant, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting

•Riley Morgan Csernica of Mount Pleasant, who graduated with a Master of Business Administration in Business Administration

•Megan Elizabeth Davis of Mount Pleasant, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (Community Recreation, Sport and Camp Management)

•Kai Alexander Donaldschless of Mount Pleasant, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Financial Management

•Brandon George Driscoll of Mount Pleasant, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (Community Recreation, Sport and Camp Management)

•Marcus Elliott Plumb of Mount Pleasant, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (Travel and Tourism)

•Josiah McKewn Williams IV of Mount Pleasant, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management (Human Resource Management Emphasis)

•Julia Elizabeth Wills of Mount Pleasant, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History

Will Basco

Former Moultrie Middle School student Will Basco (now a freshman at Wando) was recognized for winning the National African-American History Award and cash prize at the National History Day contest held at the University of Maryland, College Park over the summer. Basco’s project was on the 1955 lynching of 14-year-old Emmett Till, whose death served as a catalyst for the American Civil Rights Movement.

Purdue University

About 9,600 Purdue University students were named to the dean’s list.

Students named to the dean’s list list include:

•Meghan Hodapp of Mt Pleasant, South Carolina

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have completed at least 12 credit hours, be enrolled at least half-time, have a semester grade point average of at least 3.0 and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
