Wando dominant in region opener

The Wando Warriors stormed into region play Friday with a 67-39 road win over Cane Bay.

Wando (14-3, 1-0) has yet to lose to Cane Bay (4-10, 0-2) since the Cobras joined Class 4A Region VII in 2011. Wando's Andrew Glover and Cane Bay's Devon Kilgore both scored 15 points to lead all scorers. Trevor Behrens and Matthew Pegram each added 14 for the Warriors.

It was Wando's game from the tip as the Warriors came out firing in the first quarter with threes from Taylor Majewski and Alex Terrell and four points from Behrens. Pegram took over the post in the second quarter with six points as Wando opened a 15-point lead before the break.

Glover turned in seven points in the third quarter, Behrens and Terrell both added threes as part of a 24-point third quarter for the Warriors who held a 55-27 lead entering the fourth quarter. Kilgore scored six in the third and added another nine in the fourth but no other Cobra scored more than four in the half.

Majewski finished with seven points, Jamez Rogers eight and Terrell six. Devin Dingle and Louis Rivers each scored seven for Cane Bay.

Lady Warriors stumble

Wando Lady Warriors struggled to find their offense early, falling 57-39 at Cane Bay Friday.

Wando (5-11, 0-1) managed just 12 first-half points, six in each quarter, while Cane Bay built a 12-point halftime lead. By the time the Lady Warriors warmed up in the third quarter, Cane Bay found its own rhythm, outscoring Wando 21-16 to preserve its advantage.

Makayla Dudley led Cane Bay with 24 points and six steals. Regina King added 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Shameque Robinson finished with nine points, eight rebounds.
