Elks to host Hoop Shoot in Park West

The Mount Pleasant Elks Lodge will host its first Hoop Shoot competition Saturday in Park West. The contest is part of an national competition put on annually by the Elks. PHOTO PROVIDED

The Mount Pleasant Elks Lodge is sponsoring its inaugural youth basketball Hoop Shoot Saturday in Park West.

Anyone from the greater Mount Pleasant area or Daniel Island, age 8-13, is welcome to participate in the free-throw shooting competition. Players will be divided into age groups of 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13.

There is no cost to participate. Winners will be awarded a trophy and entered into the Charleston regional competition for an opportunity to advance to state and national. Winners of the national competition will have their names engraved into a Elks Hoop Shoot plaque at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Hoop Shoot begins at 2 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department gym located at 1251 Park West Blvd.
