PCA outlasts Thomas Sumter

Palmetto Christian continued its march through region play Tuesday with a 56-47 road win at Thomas Sumter Academy.

With the win, the Eagle stay perfect in SCISA 2A Region II and a game ahead of Dorchester Academy for first place.

J.T. Waters led all scorers with 13 points for Palmetto Christian, 10 in the second half. Chris DeMarco added 12, while Will Tuchfarber and Joe Siegwald turned in nine. Siegwald pulled down five rebounds, Tuchfarber seven.

Palmetto Christian (7-8, 4-0) shot 21-30 from the free-throw line in the second half, including Tuchfarber netting 6-6 in the fourth quarter.

Thomas Sumter was buoyed to a one-point halftime lead by eight first-quarter points from Carlton Washington and seven in the second from Will Dukes. The Eagles defense tightened in second half, allowing just 10 points in the third quarter, while DeMarco and Waters combined for nine to help Palmetto Christian carry a five-point lead into the final frame. Washington fouled out in early the fourth quarter, opening the lane for Palmetto Christian who put the game away shooting 13-18 from the line.

Washington led Thomas Sumter with 12 points, Dukes added 10.

The Palmetto Christian Lady Eagles suffered a 48-45 loss to Thomas Sumter in the night’s opener. Corey Caulder led the Eagles with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Palmetto Christian (6-10, 2-2) falls to third in Region II, holding a tiebreaker over Calhoun Academy.
