Coastal Christian needed a quick escape from its recent four-game skid. Friday at home against James Island Christian, defense was the solution.
The Cougars turned in their most impressive win of the season in a 67-18 thwarting to secure the season sweep of the Lions. Coastal (4-7, 2-5) limited James Island to just 25 percent shooting on the night. The 18 points allowed are the fewest by Coastal this season and the 49-point win is its largest margin.
Coastal held James Island (0-10, 0-6) without a field goal in the second quarter while it built a 35-point lead. Raequan Gregg poured in 13 points in the first quarter and added eight in the second. Aaron Schnupp scored six in the second.
Seth White turned in five in the third quarter, as Coastal’s defense helped the Cougars stretch their lead, allowing James Island just eight points in the second half.
Gregg finished with a game-high 26 points, White 15 and Schnupp 10. Julius Holmes led James Island with nine, Jonathan Hickman added six.
