Charleston's distillery, Striped Pig Distillery, officially opened its doors on Oct. 1, 2013, the same time their spirits hit liquor stores in Charleston and Hilton Head. After only three months on the market, this local micro-distillery that handcrafts all of their spirits from scratch announces that their spirits are now available throughout South Carolina.
It is not very common for a small micro-distillery to launch into a larger market so quickly. According to Striped Pig Distillery, unlike many brands, their focus isn't on marketing tricks or gimmicks. Instead, they focus on making quality spirits from local ingredients, and leave the rest to the consumer's taste buds. Apparently, their spirits have a had a great reaction from the Charleston and Hilton Head markets since their distributor, Ben Arnold Beverage Company, wished to take their spirits statewide so quickly.
Ben Arnold Beverage Company Palmetto Division Business Manager, Jason Johnson, said of the launch, “Working with the Striped Pig family in Charleston and Hilton Head Island in late 2013 was truly a pleasure. As a distributor, it is exciting to work with a producer that is as passionate and dedicated as the Striped Pig team. Breaking into a market place that is dominated by national brands is no easy task. Striped Pig Distillery is full of hard workers, from staying up late manning the still to keep us in stock, to walking Jackson through the streets of Charleston creating brand awareness, the whole team is eager to succeed. With this dedication and the quality of the products that they are producing, there is no doubt that Striped Pig will achieve statewide success as we broaden our base of distribution in 2014.”
Striped Pig Distillery asserts that their mission is to make their spirits from the freshest, local ingredients possible. Their vodka and ‘Shine is made in small batches from corn grown on Myer's Farm in Bowman, SC and their rum is made from molasses from Savannah, GA.
Striped Pig Distillery offers free tours and tastings of their distillery Wednesday through Friday from 3 to 7 P.M. and Saturday 12 to 5 P.M. You can also schedule your own tour by visiting their website at StripedPigDistillery.com.
