Wando continued its march through Region VII Monday with a 58-37 road win over rival West Ashley.
The Wildcats gave the Warriors the most competitive game of region play this season, which isn’t saying much. Wando (17-3, 4-0) has played each team in Region VII once and hasn’t had anyone finish the game within 20 points.
West Ashley (5-14, 3-6) hung around through the first half with a nine-point effort from Kevin Sobiesuo. Wando countered with six points from both Matthew Pegram and Jamez Rogers.
The Warriors defense clamped down on the Wildcats in the second half allowing just six points in the third quarter before its offense found its rhythm in the fourth to blow the game open. Amp Moore scored nine of his game-high 16 points in final frame, while Taylor Majewski all of his eight. David Hodije dropped in three threes and scored all 11 of West Ashley’s points in the fourth but it wasn’t near enough to keep pace.
Rogers finished with 14 points, Pegram eight. Sobiesuo was held scoreless in the second half and no other Wildcat was allowed more than six points in the game.
Wando returns home Tuesday to host Cane Bay, while West Ashley travels to Goose Creek.
