It took an extra day for J.T. Waters to decide but when he was sure, he was sure.

The Palmetto Christian Academy quarterback signed his National Letter of Intent Friday morning to join The Citadel Bulldogs next season.

"It's such a relief to have this decision over with,? Waters said. ?The process is fun but it's also stressful. I've had a bunch of great coaches talk to me, which made it that much harder. I wanted to take an extra day or two to make sure I was completely comfortable with the decision.

"I feel great about The Citadel. I love the coaches out there, the campus, the dorms, the weight room. And education-wise it seemed like the best fit, so I'm really happy with my decision."

Waters earned SCISA Statewide Player of the Year while leading the Eagles into the second round of the Class AA playoffs. His 2,579 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns both rank No. 2, and 4,328 total yards rank No. 5, for quarterbacks nationwide, according to Maxpreps.com. He is Palmetto Christian Academy's first Division I signee in school history.

"PCA gave me the opportunity to play for them and made this all possible," he said. "I don't know where I would be without my coaches and teammates. This school has built the foundation for what I was able to do today in signing with the Citadel."

Waters expects to play quarterback or slot back and says he's open to doing whatever is best for the team. As of Friday, he's the third quarterback or fourth slot back signee in first-year head coach Mike Houston's inaugural signing class.

"They can put me anywhere on the field. It doesn't matter to me as long as I'm out there," Waters said. "That's one of the things I'm most excited about, getting out there in there and competing with some great players right away."
