Palmetto Chrisitan locks up Region II

Palmetto Christian laid claim to the SCISA AA Region II championship Tuesday with a 44-32 win at Dorchester Academy.

The Eagles move two games above second-place Dorchester in the region standings with two region games to play. Palmetto Christian owns the tiebreaker over Dorchester with a win Jan. 17, and a second Tuesday.

Eagles wing Joe Siegwald continues to improve since returning from injury in January. Siegwald turned in his best game of the season with a game-high 14 points on 6-7 shooting. Chris DeMarco added 10 points and four steals, Will Tuchfarber 10 points, and J.T. Waters eight points, seven assists. The Eagles shot 49 percent from the field as a team.

Holding on to a three-point lead headed into the fourth quarter, Palmetto Christian (11-9, 8-0) saved its best for last. The Eagles outscored Dorchester 17-8, with their highest-scoring quarter of the game.

Vance Collier led Dorchester with 11 points. Palmetto Christian didn't allow Dorchester to score in double digits in any quarter Tuesday.

Lady Eagles win fifth straight

The Palmetto Christian Lady Eagles jumped on Dorchester early Tuesday for a 48-37 road win.

Palmetto Christian (11-10, 6-2) opened a 19-point lead through the first quarter, limiting Dorchester to just five points. The Lady Eagles cooled off in the second but defensively held firm, allowing eight points to maintain a sizeable lead.

Corey Caulder led all scorers with 22 points to go with seven rebounds and six steals. Lizzie Wilson added nine points, four assists, and Annie Pascutti score six with seven rebounds.

The win is the Lady Eagles' fifth straight, fourth in Region II.
