Halos and Duke University host Pitchforks for an a capella concert

  • Saturday, February 8, 2014

For the fifth year, Charleston's HALOS (Helping And Lending Outreach Support) and the Charleston Jewish Federation will host the Duke University Pitchforks for an a capella concert to raise funds for local abused and neglected children. The School of the Arts High School Singers will return for the second year as an opening act, and the Cario Middle School Troubadours will perform as well. The concert will be held at Circular Congregational Church at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 8. Tickets are $25 per person ($10 for students); they can be purchased in advance at CharlestonHalos.org/events or at the door. The Facebook event for the concert can be found via the Charleston HALOS Facebook page.

Founded in 1979, The Pitchforks are the oldest a cappella group at Duke University. They have sung the national anthem at Chicago Bulls and Duke basketball games, performed before the Queen of Jordan, and opened for Ben Folds at Duke's Last Day of Classes in the spring of 2009. The group has twice won the CARA Award for Best Male Collegiate Album in the nation with its 2006 release, Bring It Back, and its 2008 release, Disconcert. The Pitchforks' most recent album, All In, has been nominated for four awards by the Contemporary A Capella Society.

HALOS was founded in 1997 to provide resources and special opportunities to abused and neglected children and their caregivers through partnerships with community organizations. All ticket proceeds from the February 8 concert will go towards HALOS.
