Charleston Restaurant Foundation to donate nearly $50,000 to local schools and charities

  • Monday, February 10, 2014

The Charleston Restaurant Foundation, Inc. (CRF) will present nearly $50,000 to their educational partners and charities Feb. 5 at Southerly Restaurant and Patio in Mount Pleasant. The donations are a result of fundraising events orchestrated by the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association (GCRA) including the Lowcountry Oyster Festival and the Southern Living Taste of Charleston.

GCRA President, Steve Carroll, said, “We are so happy to be able to give back to our community. These donations provide scholarships for kids who want to pursue a culinary career and provide support for our wonderful charities. And of course, these events would not be possible without the help and support of Boone Hall Plantation and Willie McRae.” The funds are distributed annually through the non-profit CRF. Representatives of the schools and charities will be on site to receive the distributed funds. Each of the education partners will receive five $1500 Scholarships and each charity will receive $5000.

The benefiting educational partners and charities include: The Art Institute of Charleston, Culinary Institute of Charleston, College of Charleston, Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center, Hospitality Heroes, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children and Charleston County Schools Science Materials Resource Center. The GCRA to date has donated over $1 million to the local charities from various fundraisers.
