Wando rugby opens season with three wins

Wando battles in a scrum Friday against Stall. Warriors rugby has won its first three matches of the season.

Wando rugby is perfect three matches into the 2014 season with wins over Columbia, Bishop England and Stall.

Wando (2-0) opened Jan. 31 with 55-0 drubbing of the Columbia Rhinos at Danny Jones Field in North Charleston. The Warriors got into the try zone early and ran away with the match. Kyle Harbin, Ryan Springer, Davis Strobel, Daniel Runck, Chance Price and Jon Cummins all scored. Harbin received Wando’s Man of the Match honor.

The Warriors traveled to Daniel Island Friday with a second team, Wando B-side. Wando A-side knocked off Stall, 19-7, in the night’s opener. The two traded possessions throughout the match before Wando took control late with try scores from Harbin, Strobel and Hamlin. Strobel was named Man of the Match.

Wando B-side (1-0) followed with a narrow 7-0 win over Bishop England. Theo Storck broke the scoreless tie in the 52nd minute with a diving try, and the Warriors defense held tight the final eight minutes to secure the win. For picking up the match’s only score, Storck was named Man of the Match.
