Charleston County School District schools and offices will be closed Wednesday due to inclement weather. Bishop England, Palmetto Christian Academy, Ashley Hall, First Baptist and Coastal Christian Prep will also be closed. Charleston County government offices will be closed, Charleston City offices will open at 10 a.m. All Mount Pleasant Municipal Court proceedings scheduled for Wednesday are canceled. College of Charleston, Charleston Southern and Trident Tech will also be closed.
A freezing rain advisory has been issued for Charleston County from midnight Tuesday until 10 a.m. Thursday. The advisory also includes tidal Berkeley, Daniel Island, Ridgeland, Claxton and Naval Weapons Station. Freezing rain is expected to fall early Wednesday morning in the Lowcountry. Inland Berkeley, Dorchester and Colleton counties are under an ice storm warning. Ice accumulations are projected as high as three quarters of an inch north and northwest of Moncks Corner, Summerville, Walterboro and Allendale. According to Live 5 News meteorologist Bill Walsh, the freezing rain will become normal rain by noon Wednesday. The freezing rain will be pushed from the area as mild temperatures return to the coast.
