St. Johnís Christian spoiled Coastal Christianís senior night in Mount Pleasant this Tuesday, dealing the Cougars a 66-46 loss in both teamsí regular season finale.
The loss has little effect on the Cougarsí standing headed into the SCISA Class A Region III tournament. Coastal Christian (7-11, 2-8) will still enter as the No. 5 seed against No. 4 seed Cathedral on Thursday. St. Johnís (12-6, 6-4) remains the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 Faith Christian.
Coastal overcame a four-point deficit in the first quarter to pull within a point of St. Johnís at the half, despite not converting a single field goal in the second quarter. The Cougars shot just 24 percent from the field in the first half, but limited St. Johnís to 17 percent. St. Johnís shot 10-13 from the free-throw line to maintain the advantage in the first half.
Coastalís shooting woes continued in the second half while St. Johnís ran away with the win. Damian Hurta sparked the St. Johnís offense with 11 points in the third quarter. Jalen Ward scored nine points in the fourth and Hurta added another seven.
Hurta and Ward both finished with 21 points, combining for 30 points in the second half. Raequan Gregg led Coastal with 17 points on 5-27 shooting, while Sam Fletcher added 11.
